Fratelli Maristi Institute has organized two remarkable events that embody the commitment to fostering knowledge, community spirit, and personal growth among their students. The first was a primary school field trip to an educational farm, where children had the chance to explore the world of organic farming and deepen their understanding of sustainability. The second event was the celebrated Champagnat Games, supported by the DELICIOUS project, which emphasized the values of sportsmanship, fair play, and collaboration through various athletic and recreational activities. These events not only provided enriching experiences but also reinforced the fundamental values we strive to instill in our students.

A Day of Learning: Primary School Field Trip to an Educational Farm

On May 30th, our primary school children embarked on an enriching journey to an educational farm, marking a day filled with discovery and hands-on learning. From the moment they stepped off the bus, they were greeted by farm experts who guided them through the fascinating world of agriculture and organic products.

The day began with a leisurely walk through the farm’s fields and gardens. The children, brimming with curiosity and enthusiasm, had the opport

unity to see firsthand how fruits and vegetables grow. The farm guides explained the significance of organic farming, emphasizing the health benefits and envir onmental advantages of producing food without pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

One of the highlights was a tasting session of various organic products such as natural juices and jams. Each child sampled these products, learning to distinguish genuine and authentic flavors. The farmers patiently answered their numerous questions, making the experience both educat ional and enjoyable.

A particularly engaging activity was the “food cards” game. With the assistance of the guides, the children studied different foods depicted on a deck of cards. They explored the use of their five senses in food appreciation: touching textures, observing colors, smelling aromas, and tasting flavors. This interactive approach deepened their knowledge of foods and stimulated their curiosity and critical thinking.

The day was not only about tastings and sensory studies; it was also filled with games and sports activities. This comprehensive experience not only expanded the children’s knowledge but also instilled in them an awareness and respect for the environment—crucial values for fostering a sustainable future.

Promoting Sportsmanship: The Champagnat Games

In another initiative to promote sports and encourage healthy competition, this year’s Champagnat Games received significant support from the DELICIOUS project. The Champagnat Games, a cornerstone event in Marist institutions, celebrate community spirit and holistic education. Named after St. Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers in the 19th century, these games uphold values such as fair play, collaboration, and joy in sports.

During the Champagnat Games, students participated in a variety of sports and recreational activities, including football, basketball, and endurance races. These events not only fostered healthy competition but also strengthened the bonds among students, teachers, and staff.

In line with Marist values of spirituality and service, the games also included moments of reflection and sharing. This year, the event was celebrated on both a local and international level, thanks to the DELICIOUS project, which promotes personal growth initiatives through sports.

Both the educational farm trip and the Champagnat Games highlight our commitment to providing comprehensive, value-based education. These activities underscore the importance of experiential learning and the development of a well-rounded character in our students. By integrating lessons in sustainability, health, and community spirit, we strive to nurture a generation that is knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated to building a better future.

Through initiatives like the educational farm visit and the Champagnat Games, we aim to create enriching experiences that combine learning, sportsmanship, and values. These programs are instrumental in fostering an environment where students can grow holistically, gaining essential life skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
